MANILA, Philippines — Melanie Chisholm, better known as Mel C or Sporty Spice of the Spice Girls, wore a dress borrowed from fellow bandmate Victoria Beckham for her wedding to model and producer Chris Dingwall in Australia.
Mel C and Dingwall were married in a civil ceremony in the groom’s native Australia after the singer encountered a last-minute wardrobe problem.
In an interview with British Vogue, Beckham said Mel C told her during dinner that one of the dresses she had ordered for the wedding no longer fit and there was not enough time to have it altered.
“I happened to have that exact dress in my own wardrobe and offered to lend it to her,” Beckham said.
The dress was Beckham’s Lace Cami Dress, which she previously wore to the 2022 wedding of British Vogue editor Edward Enninful.
Mel C said Beckham’s dress was “the best, hands down,” praising the fashion designer’s signature style.
“Her clothes have a real simplicity,” Mel C said, adding that she especially admires Beckham’s slip dresses.
The borrowed gown fulfilled the traditional wedding custom of wearing “something borrowed,” one of the elements of the well-known bridal rhyme believed to bring good luck.
