SAN DIEGO — Ryan Gosling is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider, reuniting with his Star Wars: Starfighter director Shawn Levy for a film scheduled for release in 2028.
Gosling appeared alongside Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige on Saturday during the studio’s Hall H panel at Comic-Con International, where about 7,000 fans welcomed the announcement with cheers. Many attendees wore Doctor Doom masks distributed by Marvel.
Gosling’s longtime partner, Eva Mendes, starred with Nicolas Cage in the 2007 film Ghost Rider, which was released before Iron Man launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. A sequel followed in 2012 under Sony Pictures, and the film rights have since reverted to Marvel, although the character has yet to appear in the MCU.
Feige also announced that Avengers: Endgame (2019), directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will return to theaters on Sept. 25 with additional footage connecting it to the Russos’ upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for release on Dec. 18.
Marvel’s Hall H presentation drew some of Comic-Con’s largest crowds, with many fans waiting more than a day to secure seats for the panel. The event also featured appearances by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.
