MANILA, Philippines — “Wicked” actress Marissa Bode criticized Ed Sheeran after rapper Macklemore left the singer’s “Loop” tour following his pro-Palestinian remarks during a concert.
Macklemore said he was removed from the tour after several venues told the promoter they would not allow him to perform as Sheeran’s opening act.
Sheeran later clarified that the promoter made the decision because Macklemore’s contract was with the promoter. He also said he spoke with venues and promoters in an effort to “build a bridge,” but they maintained their decision.
Bode addressed Sheeran in a TikTok video Tuesday, Sept. 15, referencing lyrics from Sheeran’s 2014 song “Thinking Out Loud.”
“Ed Sheeran, my legs may not work like they used to before, but at least I have a f****** spine,” Bode said.
“Free Palestine, b****,” she added.
Bode played Nessarose in the film adaptations of “Wicked.” She has used a wheelchair since she was 11 after a car accident left her paralyzed from the waist down.
Artists support Macklemore
Several artists also expressed support for Macklemore after his removal from the tour.
Four of Sheeran’s supporting acts — Aaron Rowe and Beoga, Lukas Graham, and Finneas — withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
Kehlani and Paloma Faith also publicly supported the rapper.
“A lot of the venues/owners are rallied together this way. Honored to know you brother. Adore you. Behind you!” Kehlani wrote.
“You are a rare and important voice. Thank you for existing,” Faith told Macklemore. “This is so articulate and so powerful. You are a hero.”
Macklemore made his pro-Palestinian comments during a concert at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium earlier this month.
