KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday urged Southeast Asian nations to invest in developing a digitally literate and adaptable workforce to strengthen human capital and support economic growth.
Marcos made the statement during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders’ interface with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council. He emphasized the importance of preparing the region’s workforce for evolving labor market demands through initiatives focused on digital literacy, student mobility, and upskilling.
He said prioritizing these areas would help improve the region’s human capital and promote economic resilience.
The President also reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to collaborating with ASEAN member states to identify key sectors for workforce development and provide policy support where needed.
Marcos highlighted the role of the private sector in advancing the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement, a regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital connectivity and economic integration. He noted that increased cooperation is essential amid ongoing global trade challenges.
The ASEAN Business Advisory Council serves as a platform for dialogue between business leaders and policymakers across the region to foster inclusive economic growth and regional integration.
