DOJ pursues human trafficking case vs Harry Roque

MANILA, Philippines– The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a motion to cancel the passports of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, according to an announcement made by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Monday.

The motion, submitted on Friday, comes in light of Roque’s continued absence from the country despite the issuance of an arrest warrant by a Pampanga court. Roque is facing charges of qualified human trafficking.

According to Remulla, the move aims to limit Roque’s ability to travel internationally while legal proceedings are ongoing. He also noted that Roque may possess multiple passports, potentially two or three, which could be affected by the motion.

Authorities are working to ensure Roque returns to the Philippines to face the charges. The DOJ is coordinating with relevant agencies to facilitate the process and enforce the court’s order.

Roque’s legal team has not issued a public statement regarding the matter. The DOJ stated that the passport cancellation is intended to prevent Roque from evading the legal process and to uphold judicial accountability.

The court’s legal procedures will continue as the motion undergoes review.
