NEW YORK — NBA superstar LeBron James declined to reveal where he will play his record-extending 24th season, telling fans they will have to wait as speculation about his future continues.
James appeared Thursday at Fanatics Fest in New York, where he recorded a live episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast with Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton.
When Haliburton jokingly asked whether he had a decision to announce, James quickly shut down expectations.
“We just talked about this in the back,” James said, prompting Haliburton to reply, “OK, OK, I’ll leave it alone.”
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer became a free agent after announcing in June that he would leave the Los Angeles Lakers following eight seasons, during which he helped the franchise win the 2020 NBA championship.
James acknowledged the widespread speculation about his next destination, mentioning the Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers after a fan referenced the rumored suitors.
“I’ve heard Warriors, I heard Philly,” James said. “We’ll see what happens.”
He also reflected on his tenure with the Lakers, describing it as “an unbelievable ride.”
“I’m looking forward to what comes next as I wind down my journey,” James said. “It’s going to be fun wherever I land.”
James, who turns 42 in December, is a four-time NBA champion, four-time league MVP and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
