MANILA, Philippines — Actress and TV host Kim Chiu attended the arraignment of her older sister, Lakam Chiu, at the Quezon City Hall of Justice on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 24, in connection with a qualified theft case involving alleged unauthorized transactions from their handbag business.
Kim arrived at the courthouse with Lauren Dyogi, head of ABS-CBN’s talent management arm Star Magic.
Kim filed the case after she discovered alleged “serious financial discrepancies” in their handbag business in 2025.
Authorities later charged Lakam with 124 counts of qualified theft over alleged unauthorized withdrawals and transfers involving about ₱44.4 million in company funds.
Police arrested Lakam on Sunday, Sept. 20, and placed her in detention after she failed to post the initial ₱5.8 million bail recommended in the case.
The court later reduced the bail to ₱5.6 million after it partially granted a motion from Lakam’s camp.
The court also allowed Lakam to post a cash bond, which could reduce the amount to about ₱2.9 million.
However, Lakam has not yet secured her release, according to her father, William Chiu, who visited her in detention.
William said Lakam has yet to raise the amount needed to post bail.
The arraignment marks the latest development in the legal dispute between the sisters, which stemmed from the alleged financial discrepancies in their business.
