WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump administration is considering the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to Uganda, according to an official from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The development follows Garcia’s recent release from pre-trial detention. Authorities have not disclosed the reasons for his initial detention or the rationale behind Uganda as a proposed destination for deportation.

Garcia, born in Panama and with no publicly known ties to Uganda, has drawn public attention due to the unusual nature of the case. DHS officials confirmed that his immigration status is under review, but provided no further details. Garcia’s legal representatives have not issued a statement.

Immigration experts and advocacy groups have expressed concern and confusion over the potential deportation to a country that appears unrelated to Garcia’s background.

The Trump administration has previously faced criticism for deportation practices involving individuals sent to countries with which they have limited or no connection.

Garcia’s case has added to ongoing discussions about transparency and fairness in U.S. immigration enforcement.

As of now, no information has been released regarding any criminal history or legal proceedings that may have influenced Garcia’s immigration status. Authorities have not provided a timeline for a final decision.
