MANILA, Philippines — KATSEYE member Sophia Laforteza is temporarily stepping back from the group’s promotional activities after medical professionals advised her to take an extended period of rest for her mental health and overall wellness.

HYBE x Geffen announced Laforteza’s temporary hiatus in a statement posted on the fan platform Weverse on Friday, Aug. 7.

The label said Laforteza has been receiving support and underwent consultations with medical professionals before the decision.

“While Sophia is willing to participate in group activities despite her condition, the management took such measures to ensure the artist’s health, safety, and long-term well-being,” the label said.

HYBE x Geffen said it will continue to monitor Laforteza’s condition and support her recovery. The company plans to reassess her condition in September and provide fans with an update.

Laforteza also addressed fans, known as EYEKONS, in a separate Instagram post, saying the decision to step away from upcoming activities was difficult because she would miss opportunities to perform and interact with them.

“Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first,” Laforteza wrote.

She thanked fans for their patience and support and said she would focus on recovering before returning to activities.

Laforteza’s hiatus comes as fellow KATSEYE member Manon Bannerman remains on temporary hiatus, which began in February.

The remaining members — Daniela, Lara, Megan and Yoonchae — continue preparations for the group’s upcoming EP, “WILD.”
