Kalayaan Festival 2026 highlights Houston’s 128th Philippine Independence celebration

HOUSTON, Texas — The Filipino community in Houston gathered on Saturday, 13 June 2026, for the Kalayaan Festival 2026, marking the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence through a cultural celebration of heritage and unity.

Organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Houston in partnership with Philippine Kalayaan Houston (PKH), the event carried the theme “Kalayaan, Kasaysayan, at Kinabukasan”—Freedom, History, and Future.

Held at the GSH Event Center, the program featured cultural performances and a community concert highlighting Filipino identity, pride, and heritage.

Organizers described the celebration as both a tribute to the Philippines’ historical struggle for independence and a reaffirmation of unity among Filipinos abroad. Community members attended the event throughout the afternoon, taking part in festivities that emphasized shared history and cultural connection.

The Consulate underscored the importance of community participation in strengthening Filipino identity overseas, calling the gathering a meaningful milestone for Filipinos in Houston.
