PARIS, France — Actor John Travolta will make his directorial debut with Propeller One-Way Night Coach at the Cannes Film Festival in May, festival organizers announced Thursday.

The film, based on a 1997 book Travolta wrote for his late son Jett, follows a young boy and his mother on a journey through the “golden age of aviation.” Ella Bleu Travolta, Travolta’s daughter, appears as one of the flight attendants.

Travolta, 72, is a certified pilot experienced with aircraft including the Boeing 707, 737, 747, and Airbus A380. The film will have its world premiere at Cannes and will also be released globally on Apple TV in May.

Travolta previously appeared at the festival with three films, including Pulp Fiction (1994).
