BANGKOK, Thailand — Jamie Malonzo led Gilas Pilipinas to a 70-64 victory over host Thailand in the men’s basketball gold-medal match of the Southeast Asian Games on Friday at Nimibutr Stadium.
Malonzo scored key points and made defensive plays in the final minutes, helping Gilas maintain a narrow lead as Filipino fans chanted “MVP” and supported the team from the stands.
Gilas held off Thailand’s late comeback attempts, converted crucial free throws, and limited the hosts’ scoring runs after halftime to secure the win.
The victory gave the Philippines another men’s basketball gold medal at the SEA Games, with players receiving their medals in a ceremony at center court.
