CLEARWATER, Florida— Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, died on Thursday, July 24 at the age of 71 following cardiac arrest.
He collapsed at his home in Clearwater, Florida, and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Emergency responders arrived after a 911 call was placed around 9:51 a.m. He was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:17 a.m. Authorities reported no signs of foul play.
Hogan was born on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia. He rose to international fame in the 1980s and 1990s as a central figure in the World Wrestling Federation, now known as WWE. Known for his signature mustache, bandana, and red-and-yellow gear, Hogan headlined numerous wrestling events and was widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in the history of professional wrestling.
He became a six-time WWE Champion and played a major role in launching WrestleMania into a global spectacle. Later, he became a founding member of the New World Order faction during his time in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), contributing to one of the industry’s most significant eras.
Outside the ring, Hogan appeared in films, television shows, and a reality series. His roles in movies like Rocky III and his show Hogan Knows Best expanded his presence in popular culture.
Hogan’s career also faced controversy, including a high-profile lawsuit and the temporary removal of his name from the WWE Hall of Fame. He was reinstated and remained active in public life through appearances and business ventures.
Fellow wrestlers, fans, and public figures paid tribute following his death, recognizing his contributions to sports and entertainment. Hogan is survived by his wife, Sky Daily, and his two children, Brooke and Nick Bollea.
