HOUSTON, Texas – The Philippine Consulate General in Houston commemorated the 127th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence by supporting and participating in a dinner reception organized in partnership with the Philippine Kalayaan Houston (PKH), led by its Chairman, Dr. Clemente Logronio, Jr.
The event was held at the historic Julia Ideson Building in downtown Houston.
The celebration was attended by Houston Mayor John Whitmire, officials from the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs led by Chief of International Affairs Gigi Lee, representatives from the U.S. State Department’s Office of Foreign Missions (Houston) led by Katherine Ho, as well as local government officials, members of the Consular Corps, and leaders of the Filipino American community.
The program highlighted themes of freedom, cooperation, and cultural pride, underscoring the significance of partnerships in advancing shared goals between nations and communities.
Cultural performances showcased Filipino heritage through music and dance, featuring singer and actress Jaya Ramsey, the Karilagan Philippine Cultural Group from San Antonio, and a vocal ensemble led by Vicente Evangelista.
The celebration concluded with the lighting of Houston City Hall in the colors of the Philippine flag the following evening, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the Philippines and the United States.
The event was the result of collaborative efforts between the Consulate General, PKH, community volunteers, and sponsors, all united in honoring Philippine history and national pride.
