HOUSTON — Drivers in northwest Houston may soon see relief as the city moves forward with a major reconstruction of Antoine Drive, a street long known for its severe potholes.

The $91 million project will completely rebuild a section of the roadway running through the Rosslyn, Forest Lake, and Greater Inwood areas. Plans include new concrete pavement, improved drainage systems, updated utilities, and safer sidewalks.

According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction could begin as early as spring 2028 and continue for about five years, with completion expected in 2033.

The reconstruction will cover the stretch between U.S. 290 and Victory Drive, where crews will rebuild roughly 1.26 million square feet of roadway. Improvements will include new storm sewers, water and sanitary sewer lines, driveway upgrades, and traffic signal enhancements.

The project is part of the broader Antoine Corridor Reconstruction plan, funded through the city’s Rebuild Houston initiative during fiscal years 2016 through 2020. In total, the full reconstruction of Antoine Drive is expected to cost about $137 million.

The first phase of the project, covering the section from Victory Drive to West Mount Houston, is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to take about three years.

When finished, the five-mile corridor will feature four 12-foot traffic lanes and a 16-foot median, along with six-foot sidewalks on both sides of the road separated from traffic by a six-foot buffer.

Antoine Drive has long been notorious among local drivers. In 2019, KPRC listed it among the most pothole-ridden roads in Houston, highlighting years of complaints from motorists about the deteriorating pavement.
