Houston is bracing for significant rainfall as Invest 93L, a low-pressure system currently over the Florida Panhandle, moves westward with the potential to develop into a tropical depression. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), environmental conditions remain conducive to development, with a 40 percent chance of transition into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours and over the following week. The system is projected to advance towards southeastern Louisiana by Thursday and is expected to move inland by the end of the week, bringing the possibility of heavy rains to the Gulf Coast region.

Forecasters anticipate that this weather system could cause substantial rainfall, potentially leading to flash flooding in parts of Florida and along the north-central Gulf Coast. In Houston, heavy rainfall is likely, with the eastern and southern parts facing a slight risk of excessive rainfall by Friday. Despite the potential for development, showers and thunderstorms are predicted to affect southeastern Texas regardless of the system’s evolution.

CenterPoint Energy has assured that any disruption to services in Houston will likely be minimal, limited to rain-related disturbances expected on Friday and Saturday. Following the impact of Hurricane Beryl in 2024, which left millions without power, CenterPoint has enhanced its infrastructure by installing and replacing over 26,000 poles designed to endure extreme meteorological events, ensuring improved resilience against future storms.
