South Korea’s pilot program for overseas domestic workers is currently uncertain due to months of delays, labor disputes, and a change in government.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor had originally committed to establishing a long-term version of the program by mid-2025.
However, no progress has been made so far. On June 15, Vice-Labor Minister and acting Minister Kim Min-seok indicated that expanding beyond the pilot program within June would be challenging.
The initiative, which began in September 2024, was designed to alleviate pressure on domestic labor shortages.
