Filipino community in Central Texas gathers for Kalayaan Killeen’s inaugural gala

KILLEEN, Texas — Gunther Sales attended the first gala of the Kalayaan group of Killeen on April 19, 2026, where Filipino community members in Central Texas gathered for a celebration themed “Sambayanan.”

The event brought together Filipino residents in the region to mark community efforts led by Kalayaan group founder Paul Kalugdan, including support programs for Filipinos assigned to Fort Hood, assistance for newly arrived teachers and nurses, and relief efforts sent to the Philippines during disasters.

Killeen Mayor Riakos Adams also attended the event, which organizers said highlighted the role of the Filipino community in the city.

The Philippine Consulate General said it expects to strengthen its partnership with the Kalayaan group and Filipino residents in Central Texas.
