LOS ANGELES — Actor Dwayne Johnson confirmed that Disney is developing “Moana 3” during a press conference for the live-action adaptation of “Moana” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Johnson, who voices the demigod Maui in the animated franchise and portrays the character in the upcoming live-action film, said Disney has discussed a third installment of the animated series.

“Yes, we have talked about ‘Moana 3,’ yes,” Johnson said, as quoted by Variety. “But first, live-action ‘Moana,’ we’ll let that come out first.”

Johnson also confirmed that Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller will write the screenplay for the upcoming film.

“We have amazing Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, who have been our writers,” he said. “They will pen ‘Moana 3.'”

Disney has not announced additional details about the project.

The original “Moana” premiered in 2016, followed by “Moana 2” in 2024.

The live-action adaptation stars Catherine Laga’aia as Moana and Thomas Kail directs the film. Johnson also serves as one of the film’s producers.

The live-action “Moana” is scheduled to open in Philippine theaters on July 8.
