DFW Airport cancels over 200 flights as storms persist

DALLAS, Texas — Rain has cleared across North Texas, but travel disruptions continued at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) Saturday. More than 200 flights were canceled, with hundreds more delayed.

Passengers described rough landings and turbulence as flights navigated the storm. David Allison, arriving from Charlotte, said, “The turbulence coming down was like riding a roller coaster,” and noted that even minor delays could significantly disrupt plans.

The Boise State gymnastics team faced higher stakes with the delays. Competing Sunday at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth — one of the largest gymnastics events in the world, hosting over 8,000 athletes from 42 states and three countries — the team scrambled to find alternate flights. Hope Masiado, Boise State gymnastics director of operations, said, “We’re going to make the trip happen. It’s just a matter of when we were going to get down there. They just moved right along. We call it the goldfish mentality.”

American Airlines accounted for more than half of the DFW cancellations, citing weather as the cause without further detail.
