A tornado warning was issued Saturday night for parts of Southeast Texas, including areas southeast of Houston. The National Weather Service reported that tornado warnings affected League City, Friendswood, Dickinson, Texas City, and areas near Galveston, while a broader tornado watch covered Harris County, Fort Bend, Galveston, and Montgomery counties until 9 p.m.

Residents were advised that a tornado watch means tornadoes are possible, while a tornado warning indicates one has been spotted or detected by radar. The storms brought wind gusts of up to 60 mph, heavy rain, lightning, and small hail.

CenterPoint Energy reported that over 30,000 homes and businesses lost power around 8 p.m. Severe thunderstorm warnings were also in effect across Houston and neighboring areas.

Recent activity highlights an active season for tornadoes in the region, with two touching down in northwest Harris County in late November and two more in Liberty County earlier this month.

The weather is expected to improve by Sunday, with partly sunny skies and a high near 70 degrees.
