MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has dismissed an appeal seeking to disqualify Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo, his brother Ben Tulfo, and three other members of the Tulfo family from participating in the 2025 national elections.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia announced the decision on Wednesday, stating that the commission found insufficient evidence to support the allegations questioning the Tulfos’ eligibility to run.
The case, which centered on citizenship concerns and procedural issues, lacked the necessary documentation to warrant disqualification, according to the commission.
“The motion for reconsideration failed to provide compelling proof on the issue of citizenship or any other legal basis for disqualification,” Garcia said.
The decision upholds an earlier ruling that allowed the Tulfo family members to run in the upcoming elections. Chairman Garcia added that any further appeal must be directed to the Supreme Court.
The Tulfos, a high-profile political and media family, remain active in various public offices and continue to be influential figures in national affairs.
As of press time, the Tulfo family has not released an official statement regarding the ruling. No additional legal action has been confirmed by the petitioners.
