MANILA, Philippines — Claudia Barretto has filed a petition before Philippine courts seeking the removal of her father Dennis Padilla’s surname from her legal name and to use only her mother Marjorie Barretto’s family name, according to documents shared by Padilla on social media on Monday, June 8.

Padilla posted on Instagram that the petition lists “Claudia Isabelle Barretto Baldivia” as the petitioner and seeks the deletion of the surname “Baldivia,” Padilla’s legal surname, from her registered name. He uses “Padilla” as a screen name.

The petition named the Office of the Solicitor General, the local civil registrars of Quezon City and Muntinlupa City, and the Philippine Statistics Authority as respondents.

Padilla responded to the filing through a series of Instagram posts, where he expressed sadness over his daughter’s decision. He wrote that he would continue to love Claudia and said he respected her decision.

He also posted an old photo of himself with Claudia and her sister Julia and repeated that he remained hopeful about his relationship with his children.

The filing came after Padilla’s public reaction to a wedding in April 2025, where he said he felt treated as a visitor and said he was not able to walk Claudia down the aisle.

The petition seeks changes to Claudia Barretto’s registered surname in official civil records.
