MANILA, Philippines– The head of the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), Major General Nicholas dela Torre III, confirmed the use of force in the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The statement was made during a session with the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday.

Senator Imee Marcos questioned Maj. Gen. Torre during the hearing regarding the arrest procedures.

Torre stated that force was used due to the circumstances surrounding the arrest. He said the measures were necessary to ensure the safety of law enforcement officers and to carry out the arrest effectively.

Torre’s statement has prompted discussions on the legal and procedural aspects of such operations.

During the hearing, Sen. Marcos asked about the conduct of law enforcement officers and whether legal procedures were followed.

She highlighted the importance of ensuring that law enforcement operations respect legal and human rights standards.
