STUTTGART, Germany — Aryna Sabalenka withdrew from next week’s Stuttgart Open on Thursday, citing an injury sustained after the Miami Open in March.
The world No. 1 said on social media that she had not recovered in time for the clay-court tournament, which begins Monday. She said she attempted to recover but was not ready to compete.
Sabalenka did not specify the nature of the injury.
She has reached the Stuttgart final in four of the past five years but has not won the tournament.
The 27-year-old recently won the Miami Open, completing a “Sunshine Double” after also winning Indian Wells earlier in the season.
