HOUSTON, Texas — Houston Independent School District Superintendent Mike Miles on Monday proposed nearly $10 million in budget cuts to the district’s Chief of Schools office for the 2025-26 school year.

The proposed reductions require approval from the district’s state-appointed board of managers before a June deadline. If approved, the cuts would represent the largest decrease among central office departments.

Miles introduced the plan during a budget workshop held earlier this year, where district officials discussed strategies to address financial constraints and improve resource allocation.

“The central office reductions are necessary to align with the district’s fiscal goals,” Miles said during the workshop.

The proposed adjustments reflect the district’s efforts to manage limited resources while maintaining support for campuses and students. The board of managers will review the proposal as part of its formal budget approval process in the coming weeks.

Final budget decisions will directly impact district operations for the 2025-26 school year.
