HOUSTON, Texas – The Philippine Consulate General in Houston, in partnership with Wisteria Kababaihang Rizalista, Inc. (KRI), conducted a Personal Safety and Basic Self-Defense Seminar for the Filipino community as part of this year’s National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC).

Lt. Col. Myra Cardenas of the Sugar Land Police Department led a discussion on personal safety and demonstrated basic self-defense techniques. The seminar aimed to equip participants with practical skills to enhance their safety and awareness.

In her opening remarks, Vice Consul Tanya Gaurano highlighted this year’s NWMC theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.” She emphasized the importance of fostering a strong community that supports and empowers women.

The event was part of ongoing efforts to promote women’s empowerment and safety within the Filipino community.
