A Texas lawmaker has introduced a bill establishing a high-speed rail line connecting Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio in order to ease traffic congestion and possibly reduce the number of road accidents along Interstate 35.

Texas Representative John Bucy, a Democrat representing parts of North Austin and Williamson County, has introduced House Bill 483.

The bill proposes a partnership between the Texas Department of Transportation and a private entity to establish a rail line connecting Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio.

As stated, the proposed rail line would cover approximately 250 miles.

The bill’s backers believe that the high-speed rail could boost economic activity by facilitating easier movement of people and goods between the cities.

Proponents also point to environmental benefits, suggesting that a rail system could reduce vehicle emissions by curbing the reliance on cars for intercity travel.
