AUSTIN, Texas — Texas has extended the deadline to Sept. 21 for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients in 16 counties to request replacement benefits for food they lost during Tropical Storm Edouard.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service approved the extension, allowing affected SNAP recipients 20 days instead of the standard 10 days to report food loss.

The extension covers recipients in Angelina, Galveston, Hardin, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity and Tyler counties.

Recipients who qualify should receive replacement benefits on their Lone Star Cards within two business days after submitting a request.

SNAP recipients can request replacement benefits through 211, then selecting option seven. They can also visit a Texas Health and Human Services Commission office.

Women, Infants and Children program participants who lost food during the storm have until Sept. 30 to contact their local WIC office about replacement benefits.

The state said WIC recipients can find local office information through TexasWIC.org.
