MANILA, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said Sen. Robin Padilla had “indispensable cooperation” in the alleged escape of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II said on Tuesday, as authorities moved to pursue an obstruction of justice complaint.
Morico said CIDG had referred an obstruction complaint against Padilla and at least five other individuals in connection with the incident. He said investigators found that Padilla’s participation was necessary for the alleged escape to occur.
CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II made the statement in response to questions on the investigation, citing Padilla’s alleged role in facilitating dela Rosa’s movements.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) later clarified that the case has not yet been formally filed before the Department of Justice.
PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co said the referral has not progressed into a formal complaint submission to the DOJ as of the latest update.
Authorities have not released additional details on the alleged escape or the specific acts attributed to Padilla and the other individuals named in the referral.
