NARAYANGANJ, Bangladesh — Crowds in Bangladesh have been flocking to see an unusual local attraction: an albino buffalo with long blond hair that has gone viral online and earned the nickname “Donald Trump” because of its distinctive appearance.
The 700-kilogram (1,500-pound) bull, raised in Narayanganj near the capital Dhaka, was named by the owner’s family due to its striking mane, which resembles a blond comb-over hairstyle.
Owner Zia Uddin Mridha said visitors have been arriving in steady numbers throughout May to take photos and videos of the animal, turning it into a social media sensation.
“My younger brother picked this name because of the buffalo’s extraordinary hair,” Mridha said.
At the farm, visitors were seen grooming the animal, brushing its hair and pouring water over its head as it stood calmly inside its enclosure. The buffalo has become a local curiosity ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.
Livestock officials said albino buffaloes are extremely rare and appear white or pink due to a lack of melanin, making the animal even more unusual in appearance.
Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority country of about 170 million people, is preparing for Eid al-Adha, the Islamic “feast of the sacrifice,” when millions of animals are traditionally slaughtered and meat is shared among families, including those who rarely consume it.
Authorities said more than 12 million livestock are expected to be sacrificed during the holiday period.
Despite its online fame, the buffalo is scheduled to be sold and sacrificed in the coming days as part of the Eid tradition, though its owner said the animal has attracted more attention than expected.
“I am going to miss Donald Trump,” Mridha said, “but that is the core spirit of Eid al-Adha — making a sacrifice.”
