AUSTIN, Texas — Consul General Gunther Sales addressed business leaders and city officials at the Asia x Austin Summit 2026, held at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, emphasizing stronger ties between the Philippines and Austin.
Now in its third year and an official South by Southwest (SXSW) 2026 event, the Summit has become a leading platform for promoting economic and cultural collaboration between Austin and Asia.
In his remarks, Sales highlighted the Philippines’ advantages as a partner: a young, English-proficient, AI-literate workforce, leadership in creative services, and a growing investment-friendly environment. He said these qualities align well with Austin’s music, film, and technology ecosystem, creating opportunities for long-term growth.
Sales also emphasized the Filipino American community in Texas, one of the largest diaspora groups in the state, as a cultural bridge that strengthens business connections through shared values, language, and work ethic.
Marking the 80th anniversary of Philippines–US diplomatic relations, he encouraged both Filipino American and Austin communities to pursue a shared future, positioning the Philippines as a reliable partner and steadfast ally.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson welcomed Sales’ remarks, noting the importance of reinforcing international partnerships.
Organized by the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce (GAACC) under President and CEO Mark Duval, the Summit brought together international delegates, tech founders, and civic leaders to foster economic and cultural ties and highlight Austin’s role as a hub connecting dynamic global regions.
