SINGAPORE — The Disney Adventure, Asia’s first Disney cruise ship, was officially christened on March 4 at Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, ahead of its maiden public sailing on March 10.
Oscar-winning actor Robert Downey Jr., best known for playing Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, served as the ship’s godparent. He made a dramatic onstage appearance in a plume of smoke during the ceremony, which featured a medley of Disney songs.
Turning to Downey, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, joked that the blessing would have to be “kind of a big” one. Downey replied with his famous line, “I’m your guy,” before declaring: “I christen the Disney Adventure. May God bless this ship and all who sail upon it.”
The 6,700-passenger vessel — the largest in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet — will homeport in Singapore for at least five years. Its arrival on March 3 was marked by fireworks and a traditional water salute.
At the ceremony, Melissa Ow, chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, called the launch a “historic milestone,” citing Singapore’s strength as a regional cruise hub.
The ship features seven themed areas, including Marvel Landing with attractions such as Groot Galaxy Spin and Ironcycle Test Run — billed as the longest roller coaster at sea — as well as San Fransokyo Street inspired by Big Hero 6 and Wayfinder Bay themed after Moana.
Bookings through August 2027 are open, with three-night sailings starting at $1,460.
