Resident Evil Requiem delivers surprisingly emotional farewell to the franchise

TOKYO — Capcom’s survival horror franchise may be taking its final bow.

Resident Evil Requiem, the latest mainline installment, delivers a nostalgic, adrenaline-fueled send-off for one of gaming’s most iconic zombie sagas. Set years after Resident Evil Village, the story pits players against a shadowy biotech conglomerate unleashing a terrifying new virus, mutating humans into nightmarish creatures. Fans can expect soap-opera-level drama, betrayals, and last-minute rescues, all wrapped in classic Resident Evil tension.

Gameplay blends the slow-burn suspense of the original trilogy with modern over-the-shoulder combat. Puzzles, intense combat, and atmospheric scares keep players on edge, while fan service abounds with reimagined locations, familiar monsters, and hidden Easter eggs for long-time fans.

Though not without flaws — mid-game pacing dips and occasional clunky boss fights — Requiem is a celebration of 28 years of zombie-slaying chaos. For series veterans, it’s a satisfying, emotional farewell, honoring the franchise’s legacy of survival against impossible odds.

The question remains: if this truly is the franchise’s final act, will fans let Resident Evil Requiem rest in peace — or call for an encore?
