The United States Department of Justice has assigned more than 500 staff members to examine millions of pages of documents connected to the Jeffrey Epstein case.

The department has also added about 80 more attorneys this week to support the document review process. The review centers on files that are expected to be released to the public.

Officials at the Justice Department say the documents include a wide range of materials. The files involve records produced during prior investigations, court proceedings and related legal actions involving Epstein and his network of associates. The department is preparing these records for eventual disclosure in accordance with court orders, legal standards and privacy protections.

The increase in staffing reflects the scale of the material under review. The department says the volume reaches into the millions of pages. The records span multiple years and cover several jurisdictions.

The department has not released a specific timeline for when all of the Epstein-related documents will be available. Officials say the timing depends on the progress of the review. They describe the process as extensive due to the number of documents and the legal obligations involved.

Jeffrey Epstein, a financier with connections to prominent figures in business, politics and entertainment, faced federal sex trafficking charges before his death in custody in 2019.

The group of more than 500 staff includes the newly added 80 attorneys who joined the effort this week. They have been assigned to assist with document screening, legal analysis and preparation for disclosure. The Justice Department has not provided detailed information on the internal structure of the review team.

The Justice Department has indicated that further updates may come as the review moves forward.
