Kevin Garnett on Wednesday expressed interest in increasing his mentorship of San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, requesting an on-court training session with the 20-year-old center.
Garnett directly addressed the Spurs, saying he wants to help Wembanyama develop his game and adapt to the NBA. “Spurs, if you all are listening, I would love to come in there and get a session with him,” Garnett said.
The 21-year NBA veteran, known for his defensive prowess and versatility, has followed Wembanyama’s early career closely and praised the rookie’s combination of height, mobility, and shooting range. Garnett said focused workouts could help Wembanyama refine his skills and handle the physicality of professional play.
Wembanyama, one of the most anticipated rookies in recent years, remains central to the Spurs’ rebuilding plans. He continues to train under head coach Gregg Popovich and the team’s development staff, who oversee his minutes, practice program, and role within the system.
Garnett has a history of mentoring younger players and collaborating in training sessions and film reviews with NBA athletes.
The Spurs have not publicly responded to Garnett’s remarks, and no dates or formal arrangements for a session have been announced.
