A cyberattack disrupted the internal network of the City of Sugar Land, Texas, prompting an ongoing investigation and temporary suspension of some online services.

City officials confirmed the breach and said the Sugar Land Police Department is working with local, state, and federal authorities to determine the full extent of the incident.

As part of its response, the city has paused utility disconnections for non-payment and waived late fees until payment systems are restored.

Public Information Officer Alicia Alaniz said the city remains focused on maintaining essential services and urged residents to monitor official online platforms for updates.

Officials emphasized that public safety operations—including police and emergency response—remain fully functional. The city has not reported any compromise of personal or sensitive data but acknowledged that cybersecurity experts are assessing vulnerabilities and strengthening system defenses.

Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the attack, and it remains unclear whether ransomware or another form of intrusion was involved.

The city’s response includes enhanced network security and a review of long-term measures to prevent future incidents. Officials said staff training, technology upgrades, and collaboration with cybersecurity firms are being considered.
