As the year draws to a close, more than 500 Texas workers are bracing for layoffs across various sectors. According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Notices provided by the Texas Workforce Commission, significant job cuts are expected in the coming weeks due to changes in contracts and ownership of facilities.

The largest impact will be felt by DSTV Inc., where 169 employees are set to lose their jobs. The company, which handles visa pre-processing for the U.S. Department of State, might see a reduced number of layoffs if the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services absorbs some workers at its location on N. Belt Line Rd. in Irving.

Texas Instruments is also laying off 163 employees at its Dallas facility on N. Central Expressway. These layoffs are part of a strategic realignment intended to support the company’s long-term goals. The affected workers from the 150mm production line will receive at least 60 days of paid leave before the operation permanently closes in April.

Other WARN notices highlight additional layoffs, including 190 positions in Brownsville and Austin. In Brownsville, Seatrium AmFELS plans to lay off 91 employees by November 28 as it divests from its yard, redirecting its focus to technology centers and offices in Houston and Mississippi.

Meanwhile, Austin sees 99 layoffs from Urban Alchemy following the city’s decision to end its contract with the organization due to reported data mishandling. The City of Austin’s Homeless Strategy Officer, David Gray, emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards for vendors, leading to the contract’s conclusion. The shelters affected will transition to management under Endeavors, which holds an existing contract with the city.
