A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Mesquite, Texas, for allegedly sexually assaulting a student at Horn High School. The Mesquite Police Department confirmed that the incident occurred on a Tuesday afternoon. The suspect, identified as Synniaz Elijah, is not enrolled at the school.

The assault reportedly happened around 2:30 p.m. Investigators say Elijah gained unauthorized entry into the school. According to police, another student allowed Elijah inside, bypassing established entry procedures meant to ensure campus security.

Upon gaining access, Elijah reportedly targeted a student with whom he had a previous relationship. Reports indicate that Elijah used a weapon to force the victim into a bathroom where the assault occurred. After the incident, a teacher noticed Elijah and attempted to identify him, but Elijah fled the scene.

Later that evening, around 9:45 p.m., Mesquite police executed a search warrant at Elijah’s residence. He was found and taken into custody without incident. Elijah faces charges of aggravated sexual assault.

The Mesquite Independent School District (MISD) addressed the situation with a statement acknowledging the breach in security. MISD expressed concern over the unauthorized entry and assured the community of its commitment to student safety. The district highlighted its reliance on both safety protocols and student cooperation to maintain a secure environment.

MISD outlined the actions taken during the incident. An alert teacher noticed Elijah in the hallway and quickly attempted to question him, leading to Elijah’s flight from the school premises. The teacher promptly alerted the school’s resource officer, triggering an immediate response from law enforcement.

The school district emphasized the importance of following security procedures. Exterior doors at Horn High School remain locked, with only two designated entrances for visitors. Any deviation from these rules poses a significant risk to student safety. The district warned that students who enable unauthorized access could face serious disciplinary measures.

Parents were encouraged to discuss safety procedures with their children. MISD urged families to remind students about reporting any suspicious activities to teachers, administrators, or school resource officers.

The police department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Information regarding Elijah’s legal representation or court appearances has not been made public. Law enforcement officials have not released further details about the victim to maintain privacy and the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
