Television host Willie Revillame on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in Quezon City acknowledged during a media conference for his new game show “Wilyonaryo” that he provided financial assistance to supporters while campaigning for public office.

Revillame said the assistance was connected to earlier incidents at his television programs and public appearances, where some audience members sustained injuries during large crowd gatherings.

He explained that the decision stemmed from past experiences involving accidents during tapings and live events, prompting him to help individuals and families affected.

Revillame said his production team documented the assistance provided and coordinated with families linked to those incidents. He added that some of the support came from his personal funds.

The host also addressed circulating videos showing him scolding members of his staff during “Wilyonaryo” tapings. He said his strict approach was driven by safety concerns and a desire to prevent mistakes that could lead to injuries.

He described previous incidents as occurring during events with dense crowds, where audience members competed for prizes. He said organizers and security personnel were later engaged to improve crowd control and prevent pushing and overcrowding.

Revillame stressed that safety protocols are now a priority for his current and future productions. He said his team has been instructed to conduct risk assessments for audience participation segments and physical games.

He clarified that the financial assistance was intended to cover medical expenses and immediate needs related to past incidents, not as an act of vote-buying. He did not disclose the total amount distributed.

Revillame said he remains open to discussions with families who claim to have been affected and expressed willingness to cooperate with any official inquiry related to the incidents.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline behind the scenes, saying order and accountability are necessary to protect participants, staff, and viewers during live and recorded shows.
