Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal helped aspiring Texas police officer Jordan Wilmore by paying for his second attempt to qualify for a law enforcement academy.

O’Neal learned about Wilmore’s goal to become a police officer and his ambition to become the tallest officer in Texas.

Wilmore previously tried to enter a Texas police academy but narrowly failed one of the required tests. That setback delayed his plans to begin police training.

After learning about Wilmore’s background and interest in public service, O’Neal agreed to cover the costs for Wilmore to retake the entrance requirements.

O’Neal paid fees related to academy testing and application expenses. The financial help allowed Wilmore to try again without added cost concerns.

Wilmore prepared to meet the academy’s physical, academic, and background standards under Texas regulations.

If successful, Wilmore could become one of the tallest peace officers in the state.

O’Neal’s support did not change academy rules or testing standards. Wilmore had to meet the same requirements as other applicants.

O’Neal has previously shown interest in law enforcement and has participated in reserve or community policing roles in other areas.

His involvement in Wilmore’s case was limited to financial support and encouragement.

Texas officials emphasized that all police academy candidates must meet statewide training and certification standards.

Wilmore continues to pursue admission with the goal of serving as a police officer in Texas.
