Houston is expected to see a weekend storm with heavy rain and possible flash flooding. Forecasters say a cold front will arrive Saturday and may bring adverse weather to Southeast Texas.
Thursday’s forecast calls for lower humidity, partial cloud cover, and temperatures in the 80s. The system moving in on Saturday is linked to a low-pressure area tracking closer to Houston than earlier systems, raising the likelihood of heavy rain. The region has been dry for more than a month, increasing the chance of street flooding if downpours occur.
Houston is under a flash flood threat level of 2 out of 4 for Saturday. Local officials and residents are preparing for potential flooding.
Burn bans remain in effect across much of the area despite the rain forecast. Meteorologists say sustained rainfall would be needed for bans to be lifted. Only a few counties are exempt from current restrictions.
A stronger cold front may move in next Tuesday, with highs expected in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Clear weather is expected for Halloween.
