MANILA, Philippines– The Senate impeachment court announced today the postponement of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.

The delay will continue until the House prosecution panel is realigned according to the 20th Congress composition.

Senate President Francis Escudero, who will preside over the impeachment court, stated that the legal teams for defense and prosecution need to be constituted first.

Escudero explained that the House of Representatives must form a new prosecution panel under the 20th Congress.

This change is necessary following the departure of certain lawmakers after recent elections and the transition of others to different positions.

Despite the delay, Escudero reassured the public that preparations for the impeachment trial will proceed as the 20th Congress convenes.

He cited several essential matters needing resolution before the trial can commence, including the establishment of impeachment rules.

Pending inquiries regarding the complaints filed against Vice President Duterte also require resolution before the trial begins.
