LONDON, United Kingdom — Victoria Beckham said Thursday that she and her husband have sought to protect their children, responding to renewed public attention on family tensions following allegations made by their son, Brooklyn Beckham, in a January social media post.
Brooklyn Beckham, 27, said in the post that his parents tried to “ruin” his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, and stated he did not wish to reconcile with them. He also alleged that his parents attempted to “bribe” him into signing away the rights to his name before his 2022 marriage.
Victoria Beckham told the Wall Street Journal that she and her husband, former footballer David Beckham, have “always tried to be the best parents that we can be” and have sought to protect their children while living in the public eye for more than 30 years.
She said parenting adult children differs from raising younger children and said the family is continuing to manage those relationships as best as they can.
Brooklyn Beckham’s January post drew widespread attention in British media. David Beckham has not directly responded to the allegations, but he previously said in a CNBC interview that parents should allow children to “make mistakes” when discussing social media use.
