The Vatican has issued a statement regarding the health of Pope Francis, who has been diagnosed with double pneumonia.

The 86-year-old pope’s condition has raised concern due to his medical history, which includes the removal of part of a lung in his youth and a recent respiratory infection, both of which increase the risk of complications.

While Pope Francis has faced health challenges in the past, including a recent struggle with sciatica and surgery in 2021 to remove part of his colon due to diverticulitis, the Vatican assures the public that the pope is receiving appropriate medical care and is under close observation.

Details regarding his treatment plan have not been disclosed.

The pope’s health has long been a topic of concern due to his age and previous health issues. Despite past non-compliance with medical advice, the Vatican has confirmed that the pope is following necessary medical protocols.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, expressed support for Pope Francis, affirming the Vatican’s commitment to his well-being.

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, became pope in 2013 and has maintained a focus on social justice, poverty, inequality, and climate change during his papacy.

The announcement of his diagnosis has prompted global well-wishes from Catholics and world leaders.

As the pope recovers, his workload has been adjusted, and the Vatican is continuing to monitor his condition closely, following medical recommendations to support his recovery.
