HOUSTON, Texas– The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has temporarily closed the TEXpress lanes in North Texas as a severe cold front with wintry weather conditions approaches the region.

TxDOT officials stated that the closure is a precautionary measure to prevent accidents and improve driving conditions during inclement weather.

With the forecast predicting icy roads and reduced visibility, the express lanes will remain closed until conditions improve.

The specific timeline for reopening the lanes has not been determined, as the situation will be monitored closely.

The closure affects major highways in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Interstate 30, Interstate 35E, and State Highway 114.

Drivers are urged to use alternative routes and stay informed about road conditions through TxDOT updates and local news.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution during the storm, allowing extra travel time, reducing speed, and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles.

TxDOT recommends keeping emergency kits in vehicles, including blankets, food, water, and medications, in case of being stranded.

In addition to the lane closures, TxDOT has activated its winter weather response plan. Crews are treating roads with de-icing materials to reduce the risk of icy conditions. Priority is being given to high-traffic areas and locations known for recurring weather-related issues.

The cold front is expected to last several days, potentially disrupting travel, schools, and businesses. Public transportation may also experience delays or schedule changes.

Community leaders and emergency management officials are coordinating efforts to assist residents and provide up-to-date information.

TxDOT’s proactive approach to managing the weather risks emphasizes public safety. The department continues to assess evolving weather conditions and is prepared to take further action if needed.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay informed by checking TxDOT’s website and social media for real-time updates on closures and road conditions.
