SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Department of Transportation will close several sections of Interstate 35 in northeast San Antonio from Saturday through early Monday for construction under the I-35 Northeast Expansion Program, the agency said.

The closures are weather permitting and will affect frontage roads and mainlanes near Rittiman Road, Eisenhauer Road and the I-410 South interchange.

Saturday closures

The northbound I-35 frontage road north of Rittiman Road and northbound I-35 Exit 164 B will close from 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 22.

Drivers on the northbound frontage road who need to continue past Rittiman Road should turn right onto Rittiman Road, then left onto Fratt Road. Drivers coming from Center Park Boulevard, Dinn Drive and Remount Drive should head toward Fratt Road, turn left, then turn left onto Eisenhauer Road to return to the northbound frontage road.

Drivers on the northbound mainlanes seeking Exit 164 B for Eisenhauer Road should continue to Exit 165 and enter the northbound frontage road. They should make a U-turn at Walzem Road and enter the southbound frontage road before turning onto Eisenhauer Road.

The northbound I-35 frontage road at the I-35/I-410 South interchange will close from 9 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.

Drivers should follow signs for I-410 South and enter the southbound I-410 frontage road. They can use the signalized turnaround at Binz Engleman Road to return to the northbound I-35 frontage road.

Sunday closure

The northbound and southbound I-35 mainlanes at the I-410 South interchange will close from 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24.

Northbound I-35 drivers should take Exit 163 to the northbound frontage road and re-enter the mainlanes after Dinn Drive.

Southbound I-35 drivers should take Exit 162 to the southbound frontage road and re-enter the mainlanes after George Beach Avenue.
