HOUSTON — Two people were injured early Sunday after a dispute between neighbors over fireworks escalated into a shooting, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. on Winton Street near Daphne Street.

Houston police said the incident began when one neighbor confronted another about fireworks in the area.

“During that verbal altercation, firearms were pulled out and both parties shot at each other,” HPD Lt. Ali said.

A woman suffered a gunshot wound to her lower leg, while a man was shot in the foot. Emergency crews transported both victims to a hospital, where they are expected to recover.

Police said the suspected shooters from both groups left the scene before officers arrived.

“Once officers arrived and got the situation under control, we found out the suspects from both parties were no longer on scene,” Ali said.

As of Sunday morning, investigators had not taken any suspects into custody.
