Towed garbage truck breaks free, crashes into Dallas home

DALLAS — A garbage truck detached from a tow truck and crashed into a home in Dallas on Friday afternoon, prompting authorities to assess the structural damage and investigate the incident.

The city sanitation truck broke free while being transported by a third-party towing company at about 2:20 p.m. in the 8500 block of Thunderbird Lane, according to Dallas police.

An elderly couple living in the home was not injured.

Authorities are evaluating the residence for structural damage while investigators determine how the garbage truck became detached from the tow vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing.
