NEW YORK — The film The Devil Wears Prada 2 revisits the fashion publishing industry nearly two decades after the original movie, focusing on changes in media and the evolving roles of its central characters, according to production details released ahead of its debut.

The sequel follows Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Meryl Streep, as she navigates challenges facing traditional print media at Runway magazine amid industry digitalization. The story also reconnects her with Andy Sachs, who now works as an established journalist.

Filmmakers retained key elements from the original 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, including its focus on workplace dynamics and the fashion industry. The sequel depicts shifts in publishing, including the decline of print media, layoffs and changes in newsroom structures.

The film introduces new characters, including Amari, played by Simone Ashley, whose interactions with Priestly reflect evolving workplace expectations and communication between senior editors and staff.

Producers said the sequel also expands its portrayal of the fashion industry beyond editorial work to include retail and other sectors. The narrative incorporates themes related to industry change and professional recognition within competitive work environments.

The original film, released in 2006, established a cultural reference point for portrayals of fashion media and workplace hierarchy. The sequel continues the storyline with the same central characters while situating them in a contemporary media landscape.
